Job Description

The Senior Architect will lead the design and governance of technical and functional architectures for the Simpl Program, a strategic EU initiative enabling secure, interoperable, and AI-ready data spaces across Europe. This role ensures architectural coherence across Simpl-Open, integration with DOME marketplace, and alignment with EU regulations and interoperability frameworks. The architect will act as a bridge between policy and technology, ensuring compliance, scalability, and innovation in a multi-stakeholder ecosystem. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Define and maintain the Simpl-Open functional and technical architecture, including component diagrams, data flows, and deployment models. 
  • Ensure architectural compliance with EU interoperability standards (CIM, SAREF, AS4) and frameworks (EIRA, eGovERA). 
  • Collaborate with the Simpl Programme Support Office (PSO) for quality assurance and lifecycle governance; integrate PSO guidelines (Quality Management Plan, SW Development Handbook). 
  • Drive integration of Simpl services with DOME marketplace and other EU initiatives (GAIA-X, EuroHPC, AI Factories). 
  • Embed Security-by-Design and Privacy-by-Design principles; ensure GDPR, eIDAS, and Data Act compliance. 
  • Support adoption of open standards, federated architectures, and modular building blocks for connectors and trust frameworks. 
  • Facilitate workshops with EU stakeholders, contractors, and governance bodies; present architecture decisions and roadmap. 

Qualifications

  • 10+ years in enterprise/solution architecture, with strong knowledge of cloud-to-edge federations, data spaces, and interoperability. 
  • Expertise in TOGAF, ArchiMate, BPMN; familiarity with EU interoperability frameworks and open-source governance. 
  • Experience with GDPR, NIS2, ISO 27001; ability to design secure, federated architectures. 
  • Multi-cloud (Azure/AWS/GCP), container orchestration, API-driven integration. 
  • Knowledge of Agile, DevSecOps, CI/CD governance. 
  • Languages: English mandatory; French or Dutch preferred.
  • Certifications: TOGAF, ArchiMate, Cloud Architect (Azure/AWS/GCP), ISO 27001, CISSP.
