From colleagues to couple: a shared journey at Sopra Steria
At Sopra Steria, innovation may drive our solutions, but it's people who shape the journey. For Tom Coeckelbergh and Charlotte Pieters, that journey began with shared projects and grew into a shared life. Now married, the two Business Analysts lead distinct initiatives across the company, but it’s their collaboration, both professional and personal, that makes their story stand out.
Tom, a Business Analyst for ACCG, specialises in transforming complex union-related challenges into efficient, results-oriented solutions. As project lead for a performance testing initiative, he’s known for his analytical clarity and ability to keep communication flowing across teams. Charlotte, also a Business Analyst, works with the Flemish Land Department (VLM) where she bridges business goals and technical development. She’s currently heading an internal AI project, guiding Sopra Steria into its next wave of innovation.
A professional partnership with personal roots
Their story began in a shared workspace, two professionals seated side by side, unaware their biggest project might just be each other. A chance seating arrangement turned into mutual admiration: Tom was struck by Charlotte’s confidence in client meetings, while Charlotte admired Tom’s calm approach to complex situations.
What followed was a natural evolution. Over time, they found themselves not only collaborating more closely at work, particularly during a Sopra Steria business analysis course, but also leaning on one another in day-to-day challenges. Their dynamic became a balance of professional respect and personal support, shaped by trust and great communication.
The ups and downs of working side by side
Working together as a couple comes with its own learning curve. “You can’t really ‘leave work at the office’ when your colleague is also your partner,” Charlotte laughs. “But the benefit is we always understand what the other is going through.”
Tom adds, “It’s a huge advantage to work with someone who knows exactly how you operate like your strengths, your blind spots, even your stress signals.” They admit that disagreements happen, but say it's helped them grow both as professionals and as a couple. “We challenge each other, but we also lift each other up.”
Shared values, shared success
What’s kept their bond strong, both at work and in life, is a shared set of values. “We both believe in collaboration over competition,” says Charlotte. “That’s part of what drew us to Sopra Steria and to each other.” Tom agrees. “The company culture encourages flexibility, autonomy, and most importantly, respect. Those are the same things that keep our relationship strong.”
Looking ahead, together
Now married, Tom and Charlotte continue to navigate their careers hand in hand, growing not just in their roles, but as a team. When asked what they admire most about each other professionally, the answers come quickly.
“Tom is charismatic. He brings calm to chaos and helps people stay focused on the bigger picture,” says Charlotte. “And Charlotte is technical,” Tom adds. “She leads with confidence, precision and doesn’t back down from complexity. I’ve learned a lot from her.”
“Sopra Steria has created an environment where we’ve been able to grow together and individually,” Charlotte adds. “Whether it’s through professional development, internal innovation projects, or simply having the space to connect, the support has always been there.”
When asked what Sopra Steria means to them, they answer in a similar viewpoint: growth. They challenge each other, support one another, and learn something new every day. Also looking for a company where you can grow, connect and thrive? Your journey might just begin here, join us at Sopra Steria.
