Real impact, real purpose: Annet Treur’s life at Sopra Steria

It’s been over three decades, and I still wake up energised by my work. 

I started my journey on April 1st, 1992, at Utopics, a small engineering firm that eventually became part of Sopra Steria. That means I’ve been here for 33 years and counting, and every step of the way has shaped who I am today. I’m currently the Account Director for one of the most important and impactful clients we could ever work with, the Dutch National Police. 

One of my most memorable moments was when the deputy director of the Financial Intelligence Unit told me that our data team had helped transform their operations. Thanks to our Data2Value approach, they managed to uncover a criminal network in just two minutes, something that used to take two analysts around eight weeks manually. That kind of impact reminds me exactly why we do what we do. It’s real, it’s powerful, and it’s helping society move forward. 

What keeps me motivated is the incredible social relevance of what we do. Supporting core police processes like law enforcement, intelligence, and investigation means we’re always working on solutions that matter. Helping the police adopt data-driven tools, innovate faster, and stay ahead of crime gives me a strong sense of pride. 

I feel especially proud when we get to support secret operations or deploy cutting-edge technology that improves investigations while using fewer resources. It’s fascinating work and it really counts. 

Why have I stayed so long? Because Sopra Steria gives me the space, responsibility, and trust to be myself. I get to work with fantastic clients like the Dutch Police, collaborate with colleagues I truly enjoy, and lead in a way that feels authentic. 

If I had to sum it all up, I’d say it’s about building trusted relationships. It’s about genuinely understanding what matters to the people you work with and making a difference together.
